The U.S. Administration for Community Living’s (ACL) Office of Healthcare Information and Counseling (OHIC) is pleased to announce the 2026 OHIC National Conference. The meeting will take place in Washington, DC, on August 3–6, 2026.  Please also save the dates of August 2 and August 7 to accommodate travel to and from the event.

The purpose of the conference is to support, inform, and strengthen the work of Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) Program, State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP), and Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act (MIPPA) grantees nationwide. The conference will provide participants with an opportunity to review the core values and best practices that define these programs while building new skills to enhance education, outreach, and team engagement efforts.

Attendees will have dedicated time to network, share insights, and explore innovative strategies to strengthen their programs and partnerships. The agenda is designed to address the needs of each program.

Attendance

Attendance at this training conference is required for all SMP, SHIP, and MIPPA grantees as a condition of their grant agreement. Each SMP and SHIP program may register up to three representatives to attend. Each state may send up to three MIPPA representatives. Each program director (or their designee) is expected to attend the entire conference and should be included as part of the maximum state program participant number.

If you are a director and feel that your program requires more than three participants, please register your three allocated attendees. Afterwards, submit a request for additional participants to OHIC@acl.hhs.gov with the subject “Waitlist Request.” All requests must include a specific rationale explaining why additional individuals should attend. ACL OHIC will review all waitlist requests and respond after registration closes.

OHIC’s Conference Planning Team is currently working to prepare the event agenda. Session details will be posted as they become available. The event will generally be held Monday–Wednesday from 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. ET, with 90 minutes allotted for lunch. Thursday will be 9:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m. ET. Meals are not provided.
