Welcome

On behalf of the U.S. Department of Education, Office of School Support and Accountability (SSA), welcome! Thank you for your interest in attending the 2023 SSA State Assessment Conference.

The conference will take place in person on September 26 and 27, 2023 at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Arlington, VA. The conference will offer a plenary session, networking opportunities, and a variety of engaging breakout sessions. The conference is centered around the following three focus areas:

  1. Assessment Peer Review in the Context of Supporting Multiple Approaches to Student Assessment;
  2. Best Practices for Reducing and Maintaining Appropriate Alternate Assessment based on Alternate Academic Achievement Standards (AA-AAAS) Participation Rates;
  3. The Past, Present, and Future of the Innovative Assessment Demonstration Authority (IADA)

There is space to accommodate up to eight attendees from each State education agency (SEA) at the conference. SEAs may choose to send some of their staff and also extend the invitation to their assessment vendors/partners. There is no registration fee for attending the conference, but SEAs and assessment vendors/partners are responsible for providing their own transportation, meals, and lodging costs. SEAs are encouraged to partner with their colleagues in special education and inclusion in determining who should attend.
