New Emergency Management Virtual Toolkit for Institutions of Higher Education

Higher Education Virtual Toolkit Registration

Do you need a safe and easy-to-use tool that gives your state higher ed and campus community instant access to FREE emergency preparedness resources, tools, and training materials? Looking to create your safety Web page for free? The REMS TA Center is pleased to announce the release of the Higher Education Emergency Management Virtual Toolkit . This NEW tool can be installed on any state higher education agency or institution of higher education (IHE) Website or emergency management Web page in order to provide stakeholders with a virtual landing page for the latest Federal training and TA resources and information on higher ed emergency management.

Synchronized to Continually Meet Your Needs
Every individual state or campus toolkit is synchronized to the REMS TA Center master toolkit, meaning that when we update our toolkit with new resources or information, your toolkit will be automatically updated, too!

Benefits of Using the Virtual Toolkit
The Virtual Toolkit is divided into four sections — developing high-quality emergency operations plans (EOPs), learning and taking part in safety training efforts, engaging students and the campus community, and connecting with other emergency management practitioners.

The REMS TA Center developed this resource-based toolkit to do the following:

  • Allow IHEs to quickly and easily promote the dissemination of current and consistent information on higher ed emergency management to their affiliated campuses;

  • Allow any higher education authority to quickly and easily provide access to the latest information, resources, and training opportunities for its stakeholders and campus communities; and

  • Allow IHEs to have quick and easy access to the tools they need to develop their high-quality higher ed EOPs, learn and take part in training efforts, engage students and the community, and connect with other emergency management practitioners across the nation.

An additional benefit is that a higher ed agency or IHE can customize the branding — including the logo and color palette — of the toolkit, along with its components.

Easy Installation and Access
As a Web-accessible tool, the Virtual Toolkit should be installed locally on a state agency’s or institution’s server and be made accessible via a designated Web address so that practitioners and campus communities alike can access the latest information, resources, and training opportunities related to IHE emergency management.

To find the Virtual Toolkit on the REMS TA Center Website, hover over the “Tools” tab located at the top of the homepage. When the drop-down menu appears, select “Higher Education Emergency Management Virtual Toolkit,” which will take you to the toolkit landing page with information on the toolkit’s contents, an example of how the toolkit’s Web page will look, and registration information. In order to install the Virtual Toolkit, information technology personnel at interested agencies or IHEs should register by completing the registration form. Following registration, the REMS TA Center will send an installation package in the form of a ZIP folder with instructions on how to successfully download and install the Virtual Toolkit.

For assistance registering for this toolkit, please contact the REMS TA Center Help Desk by email at info@remstacenter.org or by telephone (855-781-REMS [7367]), toll free and between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. eastern time.

Other REMS TA Center Toolkits
The REMS TA Center also offers an Emergency Management Virtual Toolkit for Education Agencies Serving K-12 Schools. Also known as the K-12 Virtual Toolkit, it offers many of the same features found in the higher ed version, but the target audience is K-12 schools, school districts, and state education agencies.

The K-12 Virtual Toolkit allows practitioners to disseminate current and consistent information; provides access to the latest resources and training opportunities; and allows school districts to access the tools they need to develop high-quality EOPs, engage their communities, and connect to other emergency management practitioners.
