Back-to-School Checklist for Parents
The U.S. Department of Education (ED) released a back-to-school checklist,
highlighting best practices for using American Rescue Plan (ARP)
funds to support school communities as they continue to recover from
the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Parents and families can use this
checklist to communicate with their local school or school district leaders about
plans to use ARP funding on learning acceleration, COVID-19 prevention measures,
mental health supports, and family engagement.

Engage Every Student Initiative
Launched by U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona, the Engage Every Student
Initiative aims to ensure that every student can access a
spot in a high-quality out-of-school-time program. This national
ED initiative is supported by five coordinating partners and more
than 20 allied organizations that guide, encourage, and provide
technical assistance to states, districts, schools, and
community-based organizations on using available Federal
funding and supports to implement year-round out-of-school-time programs.

Back to School Blitz: Strategies for Improving Attendance in the First Three Months of School
This Webinar features U.S. Deputy Secretary of Education
Cindy Marten and presenters from ED’s Student Engagement
and Attendance Center and Attendance Works exploring attendance,
absenteeism, and student engagement. Presenters share data on the
issue of chronic absenteeism, including post-pandemic trends,
root causes, and impacts on learning and achievement, and offer
actionable strategies for improving attendance and engaging students and families.

Hosted by the Institute of Education Sciences’
Regional Educational Laboratory West, this Webinar
collection features 13 professional learning opportunities
on topics related to trauma and resilience in school environments.
These Webinars spotlight actionable strategies to help educators,
administrators, and school staff better understand student behavior,
implement trauma-informed practices, foster youth leadership
and resilience, and respond to their own needs by practicing
self and collective care.

Lessons from the Field - Supporting Transgender & Nonbinary Students in K-12 Schools
This Lessons From the Field Webinar, hosted by
ED in partnership with the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention, focuses on how schools can create safe,
supportive learning environments for transgender and
nonbinary students. The Webinar features a diverse roundtable
of experts, advocates, education practitioners,
and a student discussing policies, programs, and
practices that affirm and support transgender and nonbinary students.
