In October 2022, the U.S. Department of Education launched the “Raising the Bar: Literacy & Math Series to Address Academic Recovery.” This five-part series highlights strategies and best practices for accelerating learning, especially in literacy and mathematics. In this inaugural session, presenters outline high-quality programs and practices to address learning loss and offer information on available resources to support implementation and scaling of best practices at the State, district, and school levels.

Teaching Math to Young Children for Families and Caregivers
Hosting a wealth of resources and activities, this Web page from Regional Educational Laboratories Appalachia, Central, and Northwest is designed to support children as they practice mathematics at home. Targeted toward children ages 2-8, resources include math activities from numbers and operations to geometry, model problem solving, and data analysis, as well as guidance for parents and caregivers on how to incorporate math into play, create a math-rich environment, and embed math into daily routines and activities.

Literacy Skill Checklist
This interactive online assessment, developed by the National Center on Improving Literacy and designed for students in grades K-5, guides caregivers and educators through a series of questions about children’s literacy skills. Upon completion, the assessment provides a tailored set of resources for filling in gaps in children’s reading, writing, and language skills.

From Information to Implementation: Combatting Shortages of Educators Serving Students With Disabilities
