The National Institute on Drug Abuse [NIDA] and the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism [NIAAA] are co-sponsoring a symposium, Early Career Investigator Showcase [ECIS], as a satellite event to the 2016 Annual Meeting of the Society for Neuroscience [SfN] in San Diego, CA. The ECIS symposium provides a forum for scientific presentations by premier young and junior investigators working in the fields of substance abuse and addiction research. This symposium will take place on Friday, 11 November 2016, from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM during the 2016 NIDA-NIAAA Frontiers in Addiction Research Mini-Convention (8:30 am – 5:30 pm). The theme for the mini-convention this year is “Relapse and Recovery: From Mechanistic Understanding to Translational Research.” The meeting location will be announced when available.

NIDA and NIAAA are now soliciting applications from investigators to participate in the ECIS symposium. To be eligible for consideration, the applicant must currently have an individual postdoctoral fellowship Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award [F32], a mentored career development award [K01, K08, K23, K99], or grant support [R01] as a NIH New Investigator/Early Stage Investigator. A $1000 travel award will be given to each of the six (6) individuals selected for this symposium to be applied towards expenses incurred for travel to this event. Individuals selected for ECIS will be chosen for the quality of their research, its impact in the field, and its relevance to the mission of NIDA or NIAAA. Preference will be given to presentations that address the research theme of the Mini-Convention.
